All bars, sorted by kind
Bars
Not the most bars, but the right ones. Every address in this guide has a story, a signature drink and an hour when it is at its best.
Cocktail bars
Bars where the drink takes centre stage: classic recipes, house creations, ice in the right shape and bartenders who listen before they mix.
30 addressesRooftop bars
Bars above the rooftops: skylines, sunsets and the one drink that costs more because of the view and is still worth every cent.
9 addressesClubs
The clubs people fly for: Berghain, Pacha, Bootshaus, Robert Johnson, Blitz.
27 addressesBeach clubs
Beach clubs from Mallorca to Marbella and beach bars on the Elbe, Rhine and Limmat: the day as a party, the sun as the star.
16 addressesSpeakeasies
Bars without a sign, with a doorbell, a refrigerator door or a code: speakeasies are the places you arrange to meet at and never stumble into.
5 addressesHotel bars
Hotel bars are the underrated bars of the city: open to all, well staffed, well mixed and with the advantage that nobody asks whether you are a guest.
7 addressesWine and aperitivo bars
Aperitivo, vermouth, spritz, natural wine: the bars where the evening begins and sometimes simply does not move on, because it is so good.
4 addressesCult bars
Bars that have existed for decades and do not change: absinthe in the Raval, Altbier in Düsseldorf, sunset in Sant Antoni, Kölsch by the cathedral.
