Moscow Mule
Vodka, lime and ginger beer in a copper mug: the Moscow Mule is the long drink that made vodka popular in America.
Ingredients
- 5 cl vodka
- 2 cl lime juice
- 12 cl ginger beer
- ice
Method
- Fill the mug with ice.
- Pour in the vodka and lime juice.
- Top up with ginger beer and stir briefly.
- Add lime and mint to the glass.
In 1941 a vodka importer, a ginger beer maker and a copper mug manufacturer in Los Angeles shared a problem: nobody wanted their products. Together they made the Moscow Mule, and the copper mug became the trademark that every bar still keeps in the fridge today.
The Mule is the long drink for the early evening and the beach club: cold, sharp from the ginger, not too strong. With gin it is a London Mule, with bourbon a Kentucky Mule, with mezcal a Mexican Mule.
